What AI visibility is

And why it is not the same as search engine optimisation


AI visibility means your company appears in the answers of ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Copilot and Perplexity when someone is looking for your service. These surfaces do not return ten blue links, they return a finished answer with a few cited sources. Anyone who is not among those sources does not exist for the user.

Classic search engine optimisation and AI visibility overlap but are not the same. Ranking still counts, yet the models also look at other things: text that answers the question straight away, structured data, company details that are identical everywhere, and mentions by third parties. This layer is what people call GEO optimisation.


A different index, different rules

ChatGPT relies on the Bing index and its own crawler, Gemini on Google, Perplexity on its own. Anyone who only deals with Google fails to reach part of the users from the outset.

Quotable content is needed

The models quote what is already an answer: a concrete number, a date, structured markup. They skip generalities and marketing copy.

What we do

1. AI visibility audit

We measure what an AI crawler sees of the site: does it get finished HTML from the server, is there structured data, is the text quotable, and what the models currently bring up for the company name and the service. A written report and a prioritised to-do list at the end.

2. Structured data

Organization, Service, FAQPage, Article and ItemList markup with stable entity identifiers, so the models see you as a single company rather than as scattered crumbs of data. The visible text and the markup always stay in sync.

3. Reshaping content into answer form

The first paragraph is the answer itself, with a number and a date. FAQ blocks worded exactly the way users put the question to an AI. This is the format the models can quote word for word.

4. Bing and IndexNow integration

Visibility in ChatGPT largely depends on the Bing index, which most Hungarian companies do not deal with at all. Registration, sitemap submission and an IndexNow ping built into the publishing process, so an update goes through within minutes.

5. llms.txt and machine readability

A Markdown map for the AIs covering the services, the prices and the contact details, plus a review of robots.txt so that no important crawler is accidentally shut out. Many sites today are invisible precisely because of their own settings.

6. Entity and mention building

A consistent company name, address and profile links on every platform, plus presence in the listings and directories the models build their recommendations from. What an AI recommends is assembled largely from the texts of third parties.

How we measure it

From our own data, not from estimates


We measure from two sides. On one hand we put the same real questions to ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot and Perplexity every month and record in a table whether the company appears as a mention, a link or a recommendation. On the other, our server-side bot detection shows which AI crawlers read the site and how often.

The crawlers we track: GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended and Bingbot. Crawl activity is the early signal, appearing in the answers is the late one. So it is visible in the first months that the work is going in the right direction; there is no need to wait half a year for the first feedback.

We carry out this measurement in our own framework rather than leaving it to an external tool. The bot detection is the same layer that serves finished HTML to AI crawlers the moment it recognises them, so it is not statistics bolted on afterwards but an organic part of the system.

We use the same measurement logic for server-side measurement as well, so the marketing data and the AI traffic come together in one place, under one approach.

The lower end of the monthly range is typical for a service website of a few pages, the upper end for a complex webshop or several domains. We give a firm quote after the audit, because until then it is not possible to say responsibly how much work is left.

Frequently asked questions about AI visibility

What is GEO optimisation?

GEO is optimisation for generative search engines: the work that gets your company into the answers of ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. It plays the same role as search engine optimisation does for the classic results list, except that here it is not about ranking but about who the model quotes as a source.

How long before my company appears in AI answers?

The effect of the technical part is measured in weeks, because the Bing connection and structured data are matters of indexing. Directory mentions and reviews work their way into the answers of the models over a few months. Where the Google ranking is already there, results come fastest.

Is a good Google ranking enough?

Not enough, but it counts for a lot. Gemini and Google AI Overviews work from the Google index, so there a good ranking is AI visibility directly. ChatGPT and Perplexity, however, rely on other sources, so without the Bing connection and structured data the company never reaches part of the users.

How do I know it is working?

You get a monthly report with two data series. One is how the visits of AI crawlers develop, measured on our own servers; the other is the model answers to a fixed set of test questions, with the mentions of the company in them. Both can be compared with the previous month, so the direction is visible.

What do I have to provide?

Access to the website and the search consoles, plus a contact we can ask professional questions. We write the content, but the numbers, the prices and the real project data come from you. Those are exactly what makes the company quotable: an AI quotes the specifics, not the marketing copy.

Does it need a new website?

In most cases no. The markup, reshaping the content and the technical work can all be done on the existing site. We recommend replacing it when the site appears to crawlers as an empty JavaScript application, or is so slow that the crawlers leave before it loads.

Is this the same as an AI chatbot for the website?

No, these are two separate services. AI visibility is about external models bringing up and quoting your company. AI integration, by contrast, means building artificial intelligence into your own processes, for customer service replies or document processing for example.
